"“When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.” "
I love that quote!
I love keeping things simple in life, if we can. Simple but gorgeous style, simple and modest decor, simple and few possessions…ok I’m working on that one… simple but amazing relationships, and so on. We don’t arrive here with a user-manual and I feel that we spend a majority of our lives figuring out who we are and what we want.
I’ve spent over 27yrs behind the chair helping people figure out what it is they want. There’s a theme really, with most of us human beings. We want to feel loved, to be happy, to have peace in our lives and relationships. If I can contribute, in any way, to others living a more fulfilling life, then I feel like a success. That is where my work takes me, building people up, showing them how beautiful life is, how beautiful they are.
One of my greatest joys is seeing my team grow, learn, accomplish, envision and thrive. It’s my life’s work to become the best leader I can be and I continue to strive for that daily. My team matters greatly to me and I often put their success before my own and in turn it’s become an invaluable place to work. We all love coming to work every day, truly, and that is rare thing.
My salon experience started as an assistant to Tony Voorhees, who was trained in Vidal Sassoon London Academy, worked for Don Shaw and then opened his own salon. It was the start of the 90’s and I was so blessed to learn those classic geometric styles that required precision and perfection. It’s a style I still teach my team to this day. After years in other salons I decided to open my own, more out of necessity at the time as the place I worked was going under due to poor management. I’d never wanted to own my own salon. I just wanted to connect with guests, do great hair and leave! Now I am forever grateful that my circumstance, back in 1999, lead me to take this leap. It’s been extremely tough and extremely rewarding, especially to see my team grow and thrive. My team that started with me is still with me! That is one of the greatest testaments to how well we work together.
Here we are! Going strong since 1999, learning from the best and brightest in our industry, learning more and more how to create the best hair for our guests, how to create the best experience for them in the salon and how to be consistently the best overall time and time again. I feel like I have one of the best jobs in the world and it’s all a process of envisioning what you really want and creating it for yourself. Thank you for being a part of it.
Thank you for reading, thank you for being a valued guest and supporter of my dream! I continue to work, but now smarter not harder, on making J. Clay Salon your favorite place for design excellence. I continue to build people and am now teaching others in self-development and also business success. Find more about what else I do here.
Sincerely, Jennifer Clay
